DREW'S K.I.C.K.S. x Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools
July 11, 2025 - This year, Drew’s K.I.C.K.S. proudly partnered with the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders.
Drew Balentine, co-founder of Drew’s K.I.C.K.S. and a dedicated student-athlete, spoke directly with scholars in the Level 2 (3rd–5th grade) and Level 3 (6th–8th grade) classes. Drew also attended the same Freedom School location in 5th and 6th grade.
The scholars in the Level 3/6th-8th grade class received a self-discovery journal, “The Future Belongs to Us”. This journal is a personal guide to unlocking the incredible journey of self-discovery. Designed especially for students, this journal is packed with insightful activities to help uncover unique talents, passions, and dreams. Each scholar also received a $50 gift card to Champs Sports, to purchase shoes for Back to School, and Drew’s K.I.C.K.S. swag book bag and sneaker key chain.
Drew’s K.I.C.K.S. is proud of the opportunity to also support the African American author of both books, Devina L. Moore.
Drew encouraged each scholar to consider the value of giving back to their community. The theme at Freedom School this week was, “I Can Make a Difference in My Community!” Drew explained to the students how the idea of Drew’s K.I.C.K.S. came about.

Drew's KICKS had the honor of supporting the Lucy Laney Boxing Academy! The Lucy Laney Boxing Academy is housed inside Lucy Craft Laney Elementary School in North Minneapolis. Morgan McDonald is the founder of Lucy Laney Boxing Academy. The love and passion that he has for these young students is AMAZING!
Seven student-boxers from Lucy Laney Boxing Academy traveled to Wichita, Kansas, to compete in the 2024 USA Boxing National Junior Olympics & Summer Festival! Many of the students competing have already won multiple national titles!
This is an awesome organization that supports our youth and gives back to the community! Please support with any donation amount if you can. Thank you, Morgan McDonald, for ALL that you do!
We were blessed to be able to present a check from Drew's K.I.C.K.S. to help with traveling expenses!

Drew’s K.I.C.K.S. is proud to partner with Cityview Community School! Cityview is located in the McKinley neighborhood in the heart of North Minneapolis! Cityview Community School is a Minneapolis Public School grades pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. Principal Renee Montague is excited to partner with Drew's K.I.C.K.S. and grateful for the support provided to the families.
Drew's K.I.C.K.S. goal is to partner with other non-profit agencies, and in school resources that serve families and children. This is a referral based resource.
